Fishing in a Jacuzzi

Captiva Island, FL

July 2nd, 2023

Water temps are getting extremely hot and making the fishing a tad bit difficult finding good oxygenated water. We have plenty of territory where the water is cleaner, however, the backcountry waters become a little too stagnant this time of year unless you can find a good tidal flow. Nonetheless, we have found ourselves some great trout, redfish, and mangrove snapper are starting to school up well in some of our prime summertime locations. Trout have been on grass flats of 3-4 feet of water and along with live bait you can get them to eat shrimp or shrimp imitation jigs under a popping cork. Redfish have been around mangrove islands under a nice shade tree when the tide gets high, who can really blame them as hot as the weather is. Live pinfish is what they prefer or cut bait from lady fish.
