Great day on the water with a regular customer of mine, bite was good and consistent all day but we had to battle windy conditions. Started the morning out catching trout, redfish and snook and once the tide went down focused on sheepshead for a bit. We managed to get a few snook first thing and landed a really nice over slot trout and lost the hook set on a couple redfish. Sheepshead fishing went well when we weren’t fighting the dolphin to get our fish to the boat. Managed a 4 legal fish and a keeper pompano to top it off and as the tide got a little higher went back to our morning routine of catching trout and redfish. The guys lucked up and were on a great trout bite, all of which were at the top of the slot giving them a few nice fish for the nights table fare. Fished shrimp under corks for our trout and redfish and fastened shrimp on jig heads for the sheepshead bite. Spring is right around the corner so we should be seeing whitebait return and a mass number of snook to follow bringing the majority of the fish back into the sound and inshore waters. Spring is one of the best times for the inshore bite, it’s hard to beat a day fishing mangroves for big hungry snook and redfish.
